About Imagination Peak

Imagination Peak is a pyroclastic cone rising to 1,986 meters (6,516 feet) in United States's North America Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Imagination Peak is located in United States, within the High Cascades Volcanic Arc of the broader North America Volcanic Regions. Situated at 42.55° N, 122.20° W in the Northern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a temperate climate zone. With a summit elevation of 1,986 meters above sea level, Imagination Peak is a moderately sized peak that remains accessible to hikers and researchers for much of the year. The volcanic landform is characterized as a minor, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.

GVP Reference Summary

Imagination Peak pyroclastic cone NW of Pelican Butte was considered to be of Holocene age (Sarna-Wojcicki et al. 1983, Smith 1988), but Sherrod (1995 pers. comm.) considered a Holocene age to be uncertain, based on the lack of a summit crater and possible glaciation. The sharp-topped summit without a crater is morphologically similar to Lone Peak in the southern Cascades of Washington, a tuya constructed through a glacial icesheet or glacial lake.
