GVP Reference Summary
Two melanephelinite cones about 1.5 km apart, Izumbwe and Mpoli, are located ~18 km WNW of Ngozi caldera and just NW of Izumbwe village (Harkin, 1960). Basal lava flow trachyte units in the Songwe Basin were dated at 0.55 Ma (Ebinger et al., 1989). The youngest units in this area do not have age dates, but are covered with tephra from recent Rungwe and Ngozi eruptions.
