About Rudakov

Rudakov is a stratovolcano rising to 532 meters (1,745 feet) in Russia's Northwestern Pacific Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Rudakov is located in Russia, within the Kuril Volcanic Arc of the broader Northwestern Pacific Volcanic Regions. Situated at 45.87° N, 149.82° E in the Northern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a temperate climate zone. With a summit elevation of 532 meters above sea level, Rudakov is a moderately sized peak that remains accessible to hikers and researchers for much of the year. The volcanic landform is characterized as a composite, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.

GVP Reference Summary

The small Rudakov stratovolcano is on the NW side of the Tokotan Isthmus on the Sea of Okhotsk coast of central Urup Island. The basaltic andesite cone has a 500-m-diameter summit crater containing a 300-m-diameter lake. The age was considered to be late Pleistocene or early Holocene by Gorshkov (1970), but no later research is known that describes or dates eruption deposits.
