About Bazman
Bazman is a stratovolcano rising to 3,490 meters (11,451 feet) in Iran's Arabia-Central Asia Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.
Geography & Climate
Bazman is located in Iran, within the Central Asia Volcanic Province of the broader Arabia-Central Asia Volcanic Regions. Situated at 28.07° N, 60.00° E in the Northern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a subtropical climate zone. At 3,490 meters above sea level, Bazman rises above the surrounding terrain into montane or subalpine conditions. The elevation creates distinct ecological zones along its flanks, from forested lower slopes to exposed rocky terrain near the summit. The volcanic landform is characterized as a composite, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.
GVP Reference Summary
Bazman is a dominantly andesitic stratovolcano in SE Iran with a 500-m-wide summit crater. Satellitic lava cones have been the source of olivine basalt lava flows, and a steep cone on the N flank produced a lava flow that traveled to the N before diverging to the NW and NE. Only minor fumarolic activity has been reported. The youngest dates obtained by Ghalamghash et al. (2019), using Uranium-series (238U-230Th) disequilibrium in zircons for dacitic to andesitic lava near the summit, obtained a date for an eruption phase about 41,000 years before present.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bazman
Is Bazman an active volcano?+
Bazman is not currently classified as active. Its activity evidence is listed as "unknown." No recorded eruptions have been documented. However, no volcano is ever considered permanently extinct.
How high is Bazman?+
Bazman has a summit elevation of 3,490 meters (11,451 feet) above sea level. At 3,490 meters, it is comparable in height to many significant mountain peaks and stands well above the tree line.
What type of volcano is Bazman?+
Bazman is classified as a Stratovolcano. Stratovolcanoes (also called composite volcanoes) are steep, conical volcanoes built up by many layers of hardened lava, tephra, and volcanic ash. They are among the most common and dangerous types, known for explosive eruptions.
Where is Bazman located?+
Bazman is located in Iran, in the Arabia-Central Asia Volcanic Regions. More specifically, it lies within the Central Asia Volcanic Province. Its exact coordinates are 28.070° latitude, 60.000° longitude.
Is it safe to visit Bazman?+
Bazman can generally be visited, but as with any volcano, visitors should check local conditions and any advisory notices before traveling. Iran may have specific regulations for accessing volcanic areas. Guided tours are often the safest and most informative way to experience a volcano.
