About Singu Plateau

Singu Plateau is a fissure vent(s) rising to 507 meters (1,663 feet) in Burma (Myanmar)'s Eastern Asia Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Singu Plateau is located in Burma (Myanmar), within the Southeast Asia Volcanic Province of the broader Eastern Asia Volcanic Regions. Situated at 22.70° N, 95.98° E in the Northern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a tropical climate zone. With a summit elevation of 507 meters above sea level, Singu Plateau is a moderately sized peak that remains accessible to hikers and researchers for much of the year. GVP Reference Summary

The Singu Plateau volcanic field, also known as Letha Taung, is a basaltic trachyandesite lava plateau in north-central Burma, N of the city of Mandalay. The lava flows originated from fissure vents and cover an area of about 62 km2. Though some previous catalogues indicated a Holocene age, Bertrand et al. (1998) provided 40K-40Ar ages of 0.25-0.31 Ma from five of the youngest flows at the southern border of the plateau.
