About Amorong Group

Amorong Group is a volcanic field rising to 369 meters (1,211 feet) in Philippines's Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Amorong Group is located in Philippines, within the Luzon Volcanic Arc of the broader Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. Situated at 15.82° N, 120.74° E in the Northern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a tropical climate zone. At just 369 meters above sea level, Amorong Group is a relatively low-elevation volcanic feature. Despite its modest height, it remains an active geological formation with the same underlying magmatic processes as its taller counterparts. The volcanic landform is characterized as a cluster, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.

GVP Reference Summary

Mount Amorong is the only one of a cluster of small trachyandesitic lava domes and diatremes at the northern end of the Luzon Central Plain, along the Eastern Bataan volcanic lineament, that displays solfataric activity (Wolfe, 1982, pers. comm.). A date of about 1.14 million years (K-Ar) was obtained. Yumul et al. (1999) collectively called Amorong, Mount Balungao, and Mount Cuyapo the Paniqui Plugs, and noted that nearby Mount Bangcay was a tuff cone.
