About Bibinoi

Bibinoi is a stratovolcano(es) rising to 932 meters (3,058 feet) in Indonesia's Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Bibinoi is located in Indonesia, within the Halmahera Volcanic Arc of the broader Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. Situated at 0.76° S, 127.72° E in the Southern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a tropical climate zone. With a summit elevation of 932 meters above sea level, Bibinoi is a moderately sized peak that remains accessible to hikers and researchers for much of the year. The volcanic landform is characterized as a composite, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.

GVP Reference Summary

Bukit Bibinoi (Bibinoi Hill) is the largest and SE-most of a group of three andesitic volcanoes located along a NW-SE line on the SE part of Bacan Island, west of the southern tip of Halmahera. The smaller Songa and Lansa volcanoes straddle a narrow isthmus separating the SE-most peninsula from the Sibela Mountains metamorphic complex. The group lies along the same trend as the Amasing volcano group, located to the NW on the other side of the Sibela Mountains. Although mapped as Holocene by Yasin (1980), work by Malaihollo (1993) found that the most recent volcanic material was Pleistocene.
