About Amasing

Amasing is a stratovolcano(es) rising to 1,006 meters (3,301 feet) in Indonesia's Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. No historical eruptions have been recorded, though the volcano is classified based on geological evidence of past activity.

Geography & Climate

Amasing is located in Indonesia, within the Halmahera Volcanic Arc of the broader Western Pacific Volcanic Regions. Situated at 0.52° S, 127.50° E in the Southern Hemisphere, the volcano lies within a tropical climate zone. With a summit elevation of 1,006 meters above sea level, Amasing is a moderately sized peak that remains accessible to hikers and researchers for much of the year. The volcanic landform is characterized as a composite, which describes the physical shape and structure of the volcanic edifice as observed from the surface.

GVP Reference Summary

Bukit Amasing (Amasing Hill) is the largest and NW-most of a group of three small andesitic volcanoes along a NW-SE line on central Bacan Island, west of the southern tip of Halmahera. Two smaller volcanoes, Cakasuanggi and Dua Saudara, were constructed to the SE, north of the Sibela Mountains metamorphic complex. These mountains separate the Amasing group from another group of three andesitic volcanic features on SE Bacan Island. Although mapped as Holocene by Yasin (1980), work by Malaihollo (1993) found that the most recent volcanic material was Pleistocene.
